Phillip hosts A Night of Heroes – The Military Awards

16th December 2013

Phillip and Amanda Holden hosted A Night of Heroes – The Military Awards at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich last week, broadcasting tonight at 9pm on ITV.

The Awards paid tribute to the excellence and courage of Armed Forces personnel, with The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall attending as the guests of honour. They were joined by Prime Minister David Cameron and wife Samantha, defense ministers, senior military, government and political figures and stars from entertainment and sport to pay tribute.

In eight categories, the awards honoured the bravery and excellence of the men and women serving at home and overseas. Also celebrated were members of the public who in various ways work tirelessly to support military personnel.

Awards included Overcoming Adversity, Best Reservist, Most Outstanding Sailor/Marine Award, Most Outstanding Soldier, Most Outstanding Airman, Lifesaver Award, Best Unit and two Special Recognition Awards. The winners were presented their trophies by sports and entertainment stars including Ricky Gervais, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Ronnie Wood, Holly Willoughby and Tom Hardy.

Ronnie Wood said on the night:

“It’s amazingly important to celebrate our unsung heroes. In everyday life, you don’t realise what goes on and take it for granted. But, when you meet them and see what they do, it’s mind-blowing.”

With Holly Willoughby addressing the troops serving abroad directly:

“My message is stay safe. I’ll be thinking of you and raising a glass over my Christmas dinner. Look after yourselves and come back soon.”

A Night of Heroes – The Military Awards will be broadcast on ITV at 9pm on Monday 16 December.
