As I said to Katie Price on This Morning today, no one likes it when mates break up and you have to invite them over separately when once they would have been a couple. It’s equally difficult when those mates are not communicating. What makes this break up even more upsetting is, that they are communicating, but in the papers! Not really a reliable way to pick through the wreckage of a marriage. It’s hard to know who is in the right and if what we are hearing is anywhere near the truth.

I don’t intend to take sides, I like them both but this public scrap is anything but helpful. Katie also said on This Morning that she was running a business, well if that’s how we are to view it, then I’m beginning to feel more than a whiff of public boredom. With a couple who thrive off public interest, apathy must be the greatest danger. We want them both to be happy, but we admire dignity and restraint which could be lacking in some quarters. I have said on my Twitter page that I think Katie is winding Pete up just to get a reaction. I stand by that. This should not be about point scoring, it should be about sensible adults behaving in a dignified way, if only for the sake of the children. Then maybe it won’t be so uncomfortable when we invite our friends round in the future.

I have just had the longest summer holidays ever, all thanks to my new This Morning partner Holly. Successive This Morning hosts have all thanked Richard & Judy for negotiating the school holidays off, at times it’s a privilege that has looked as if it might be taken away, but we’ve always worked very hard to keep it! To that end the summer holidays are a fantastic time to recharge the batteries and spend valuable time with the family.  This year, because of Holly’s filming commitments to the Xtra Factor, I got an extra two delicious weeks.  It has meant that I’ve done all those jobs around the house that I’ve been putting off. I have cleared the pond of blanket weed, taken a tonne of old clothes to the local charity centre (if you find a very lovely Gucci suit, check the pockets will you?!) and de-cluttered the house and then loaded a big skip.  All that on top of some really great family time in the sunshine! When I put the holiday video together I hadn’t realised how much of my free time revolves around food!

So the summer holidays are over, and I am VERY excited to get back to work.  We met up with Holly, husband Dan and little Harry in the summer and the two of us are really busting to get into the studio and get our teeth into the new series.  The studio looks great, the new additions to the This Morning family are perfect and the new titles have given the whole show a fresh start. We’re cooking everyday at 12pm so you’ll get some great ideas from top chefs and the line-up of guests is sensational.  I really can’t wait and you can be sure that there will be lots of Tweeting from the studio floor and lots of video put on both our websites.  Also check out the new look This Morning website here.

The countdown to the start of This Morning, with its brand-new line up has begun and we can hardly wait! We love summer as much as the next person but our weekday mornings have seriously felt a little empty over the last couple of months. Luckily, This Morning is back on our screens on Tuesday 1^st September and along with the new-look show, there’s also a fabulous new website - check it out at www.itv.com/thismorning.

I’ll let you into a secret…. 

One of the presents we gave to Fern was a video of a whole load of the This Morning team dressed in that infamous Princess Leia dress she wore a few weeks ago.  At the time it got a great deal of press interest so we thought we’d take it one step further!!  This is the pic taken before my bit on the video. 

It’s testament to Fern’s incredibly svelte frame because we all really struggled to get into it.  I am not in the habit of putting a frock on, partly because ladies -  I don’t know how the hell you walk in heels, but this is the second time I’ve done it for a laugh.  The first time was a favour for Ant & Dec on their Takeaway show, they needed a punch line for a Pussycat Dolls sketch and before I knew it I was a new member of the band!!
 

Anyway, thought you’d like the exclusive…… let’s never talk of this again!

At 2.30pm today the deal was done and Holly became my new This Morning partner. Perfectly timed, as I was having my photo taken for the opening titles for the new series, which starts in September. Holly immediately jumped in to a car and came to the This Morning studios where we all had a couple of bottles of bubbly waiting for her arrival.

Everyone adores Fern and will miss her enormously but Holly Willoughby was at the top of everybody’s list to pick up where Fern leaves off. She filled in for Fern a few months ago and from that moment on everybody knew she was the obvious number one choice. This Morning is a very close-knit family not only in the studio but the audience as well and for that reason, Holly is perfect.

Kerry Katona today held a press conference for her new TV show in which she referred to her appearance on This Morning last year. Here, Phillip responds to her comments. 

Anyone who regularly watches This Morning will hopefully agree that we try our very best to give a balanced point of view.  We pride ourselves on being sensitive and caring to our guests.  In light of Kerry Katona’s recent press conference I would like to point out that the recollection I have of the interview we did with her, differs considerably from hers. I still believe we approached her difficulties with a much fairer, gentler hand than she would have received in many other arenas.  It is fantastic that she is attacking her problems head-on, it can’t be easy and is to be congratulated.  As always, I wish her nothing but health and happiness.
