Sunday’s Dancing On Ice may well have been my most favourite show of all the series’ we’ve done. I loved the big movie opening (CLICK TO WATCH) and I got a little bit of the behind the scenes action just before we went live.
One of the guys carrying that huge painting asked if I fancied it for above the fireplace! I said we’d have to raise the ceiling.
From the moment the show started to the minute it ended it was a magnificent night at the movies, so much so that Holly even gave a little acceptance speech… which I didn’t hear because I was my usual 5 steps behind (avoiding the frock).
Danny was very nervous about going shirtless; in fact he quietly asked if I could make it clear that it wasn’t his idea. After Jason’s flustered reaction and the brilliant scores I wondered if he’d wished it was?! It was suggested in the commercial break that maybe next week he should try skating without trousers, he drew the line at that … those blades are sharp.
After teasing Kieron and Brianne over the deep mahogany tan they were developing, as soon as I walked in on Sunday morning Brianne skated straight over and said “Look, no fake tan!” I said “Brilliant, well done, but are you ok? You look pale” at which point she hit me and skated off
Both Mikey and Danniella were in the Skate-Off and if I’m honest I think both were ready to go. Mikey wants time to heal his aching body and promote the new Boyzone album and Danniella is desperately missing her husband, Mikey lost out (or got lucky depending how you look at it) and we’ll really miss him.
Who would believe with his terrific routine that Gary was ever in a Skate-Off, and who could ever have thought that Hayley, who had never danced on ice before, could get our judges to spontaneously jump to their feet in excitement and rapture? Surely one of the best straight six routines we’ve ever had. An Oscar winning performance to end a magical movie night.
Finally, didn’t have time to say it at the end of the show, but next week is Props week! In the past it has proved to be carnage!
Let’s hope your favourite doesn’t get the wooden spoon…
