Phillip’s Cook-Off Winning Burger Recipe!

March 4th, 2010

It was cook off carnage on This Morning yesterday, as Holly, Phil and Gino took to the grill to prove who could make the best burger of them all.

It was Phillip’s homemade patties that proved most impressive with the This Morning crew putting rest to Holly’s dreams of burger superiority:

Fancy giving Phillip’s winning recipe a go? See below for the full details, and for those that think Holly was robbed, you’ll see her own recipe beneath Phillip’s.

 Enjoy!

Phillip’s Burger Recipe (makes 4 patties)

  • Ingredients:
  1. 450g leftover roast meat
  2. 2 medium onions
  3. 110g fresh breadcrumbs
  4. 1 egg
  5. 1 tsp fresh thyme
  6. 1 tsp fresh chives
  7. Groundnut oil
  8. Horseradish sauce
  9. 4 sesame seed buns
  10. Beef tomato
  11. Strong cheddar

  • Finely chop the onions until they’re soft.

  • Magimix the leftover meat until it’s coarsely chopped.

  • Combine the meat with breadcrumbs, egg, thyme, chives and onions in a bowl and season.

  • Mould into patties and shallow fry in groundnut oil.

  • Spread a little horseradish on a toasted sesame seed bun

  • Put a thin slice of tomato and some grated cheddar and flash under the grill. Don’t add the burger until you’re ready to serve. When ready, sprinkle a little of thyme on the top.

  • Serve with roasted vegetables.

Holly’s burger recipe, which also makes 4:

Ingredients:

  • 450g minced beef
  • 1 finely diced rasher of bacon
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • Crushed garlic
  • 50g breadcrumbs
  • 60g cheddar (15g chunk per burger)
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to season
  • 4 burger buns

  • Chop the cheese into 4 even blocks.

  • Fry the bacon for a couple of minutes until cooked. Combine the bacon, mince, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg and seasoning in a bowl.

  • Build the beef mixture into patties around the individual blocks of cheese and shallow fry until cooked.

  • Serve on burger buns with lettuce, tomato and ketchup.
