A Night of Romance….

February 15th, 2010

What a night of romance last night at Dancing on Ice. All the skaters (even Dr Hilary) raised their game and I think the competition has now really started.  As Robin Cousins is in Vancouver for the winter Olympics Michael Ball joined as a guest judge and did a brilliant job, though he said to me before the show that he was terrified! When I caught up with him just as the main show came off air it was obvious he’d really enjoyed himself. As did Karen Barber who was promoted to head judge and had begun to hatch plans to stay in the ‘top’ chair. One thing you don’t get to see are the lower halves of the judges (!) but this week I thought you should see Karen’s shoes…

Lots of people asked me what Jason was wearing. In fact it was a creation specially made for him to wear on this series of DOI by his good friend Alexander McQueen who so tragically took his life last week.  Jason wore it as a tribute.

In complete emotional contrast, many congratulations to our runner Tom who proposed to his lovely girlfriend Gülin just before the Skate-off. Thankfully she said yes!

Finally, one question I’m asked more than any other is “how do you decide the length of pause before announcing a skater has got through?” Well this next video should answer that question. Here’s exclusive footage of what’s being said in my ear, when and by who! Glenn Coomber is our series producer who is the person telling me who is through, and then Paul Kirrage, our director gives me the cue once he’s got all the shots he needs. This shows exactly how it all works and thanks so much to the team for letting me show it (good camera work Glenn).

very interesting, I never realised it was that “cluttered” in your ear. I thought you would just hear “Ok Philip its Emily”. Thanks for this.

Love your web site. How do you manage to fit everything into your schedule, let alone log it all on your web site and twittering. May you long continue.
