Phillip’s Review of Take That at Wembley Arena

There is no doubt that Take That know how to throw a party!

Why weren’t the circus’s of my childhood like the one I saw on Friday night? Actually come to think of it, simple, because Kim Gavin wasn’t the genius mastermind and the travelling shows that visited Newquay didn’t have a few million chucked at them. From acrobats to a hydraulic elephant, from balloons and fireworks to fire and rain, this was a combination of Moulin Rouge the movie, through Harry Potter to Ripley’s Believe it or Not.

We knew the music would be great but the visuals were equally exciting. Only one minor quibble, maybe it was because they were shooting the DVD on the night that we went, but 2 lights on a central tower shone in our eyes all night, not for one second did they dim or extinguish. If I’d had a rifle I would have shot the bulbs out. Nothing is totally perfect.

Anyway Gary sent a burly minder to fetch me and Fearne and after a walk of about a kilometre we were delivered to the bands tranquil/camp waiting room, purple cushions and a golden elephant kept us entertained until we went through to see the lads.

This was about as last second as it gets, the crew were howling that if the guys didn’t leave for the stage NOW!!! then the gig would finish late and fines would follow.
While the team sweated Gary told us how weird and grown up it had been to have his family backstage and how thrilled they all were to have had such stunning reviews. Then they all bundled out to a people carrier to be ferried to the stage at the centre of the massive and impressive Wembley stadium.

It was obvious that they were going to get there before we got to our seats, so Fearne and I legged it along with newlyweds Mr and Mrs Lee Mead (though they were going to the Royal Box!! Pah).

We may have been slightly knackered after covering another kilometre to our seats, but we made it on time. The sky started out a stunning blue and as the sun set the show kicked into overdrive.

All the songs you wanted and more, the guys had even learnt how to unicycle (we still don’t know if Mark’s tumble was planned!). James Corden sang his heart out to almost every song which impressed us all

…. Sorry for the sneaky pic mate, couldn’t resist. Great night had by all, The Script deserve a mention too as a storming warm-up (Lady Ga Ga lived up to her name and simply didn’t show up!) Word is that during the tour another album is being penned and they may be back on the road again in 2010/11. How the hell will Take That top that? Thanks lads, ‘Spectacular, Spectacular!’
